Walk- Heaven’s Gate at Kimmeridge
This beautiful walk around Kimmeridge Bay is perfect on a sunny winters afternoon. The walk takes you on a full circle; starting at quarry car park and leading you all the way back. Your walk around the area is rich in history; dating back to the prehistoric times, and will also take you through areas of natural beauty and geographical importance. We would also recommend you have a look at Clavel Tower; the beautiful landmark that was restored to its former beauty and saved from falling off the cliff edge.
The walk is approximately 5 miles and should take around an hour and a half to complete. On your walk you will encounter steep inclines and rough paths so be sure to bring proper footwear.
From the car park follow the path back up leading to the road. Once you reach the road turn right onto the track that runs behind the quarry. The path will take you up Smedmore Hill where you will have superb views of the surrounding coast and countryside.
At the end of the track, pass through the gate and continue in the same direction. When you reach the stile, follow the path down towards the sea. When you reach the bay you will see the Marina Wildlife Reserve – you should definitely pop in and have a look around before you continue the walk! Next follow the signs towards Kimmeridge Coppice – this will lead you in the direction of Kimmeridge village. When you reach the village be sure to have a look around and maybe stop for a cream tea at the local tea shop. Just past the church leading out of the village there is a footpath – follow this to return to the car park.
