A sad tale, this place was evacuated in World War two as it was deemed as a highly strategic place for the UK MOD operations. Whilst the village is now clearly in ruins The Church and School and have been kept as they were since the day of evacuation all of those years ago. You can visit the exhibitions that will give you an insight into those very hard times for the village and villagers of Tyneham all year round, with a voluntary contribution to the village managers in the car park.
In addition to your visit to the village there is also a beautiful walk (only 1mile) from the village to Worbarrow Bay – part of the UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE Jurassic Coast line.
The MOD still utilise this area for ranges and it is advisable to check your times for visit CLICK HERE.
